Columbus Day

Christopher Columbus was born in Italy. During this time period most people believed the world was

flat
and if people went to far out to sea they would fall off the world.  They also believed sea serpents would eat them if they went out too far.  I am told Christopher's brother worked with maps.  When Columbus studied his brother's maps he theorized that the world was not flat as most people believed.  He wanted to prove his theory so he tried to find someone to finance his trip.  He went to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabel of Spain promising them riches from the East.
