Father's Day is celebrated this month.
This year it is on Sunday, June 19.
It is always held on the third Sunday in June.
It is a time to remember and show respect to our fathers and grandfathers.

I like to recall some special memories of them.

Special memories of my dad.

Dad liked to travel so every summer we would get in the car and see some new place.  That was fun but what I treasure most about those vacations is the time when my dad would come in my room and relive those vacations with me.  He would tell me stories about a family who went on a vacation and "they saw everything."  They saw mountains and rivers and oceans and trains and buildings and monuments and on and on.  It would remind me of places we had seen and kept those special memories alive.  He would make me laugh at his wonderful adventurous stories.

Another wonderful memory I have of my dad is looking for things in the newspaper with him.  If I found what he was looking for, I would say "here it is" and he would make a funny noise and we would cut it out and put it in a scrapbook.  I don't know what happened to the scrapbooks but I have wonderful memories of our special newspaper searches.

My dad also loved to sing.  He taught me to love singing too.  As a young child he sang to me when I went to bed and of course we sang in church and in the car and on our way to different places.  When I hear certain songs, I still think of Dad's voice singing those songs.

Dad also loved all kinds of sports.  We watched every sport on TV together.  He loved football, basketball, golf, fishing and especially baseball.  He taught me how to fish, hit a golf ball, play tennis, and basketball.
He was the greatest.
I miss him.

My granddad was also very special.
He made me granddad sandwiches.
He had an orange tree in his backyard and would pick an orange off his tree when I visited him.
I can still see the special plant that he said reminded him of me that grew outside his bedroom window among a pathway of arbors of beautiful flowers and vines.
He always made me feel special and I thought his place was wonderful.  He had an aviary full of parakeets and canaries and  a dog kennel as he groomed and raised  dogs and birds  for a living.
It was so much fun to watch the colorful birds and run and play with the dogs.
He even gave me one of his dogs when our family pet died when I was ten.
It was always wonderful to visit granddad.  He was very special to me.
