Tomb
of the Unknown Soldier
Tragically some are MIA (missing in action) and families are left distraught, asking questions, anxious and fearful.
Schools participate in
Veterans
Day and Patriotic Programs while
government offices close and
parades
and ceremonies are held throughout the city.
Historically
the American people
and
Presidnet Woodrow Wilson
originally called Veteran's Day
Armistice Day.
Armistice Day is the day the
Germans
signed the treaty with the US after World War I
in the eleventh month,
on
the eleventh day at the eleventh hour.
It commemorated peace and
recognized
the veterans of WWI.
It became a holiday in 1938.
After WWII in 1954 President
Eisenhower
and Congress
wanted to recognize ALL veterans
in all branches
so the name was changed to
Veteran's Day.
The date was changed in
the
1960's but Veterans and the American people realilzed the significance
of the day so Congress changed it back to
November 11th in 1978.
Serving our country keeps our freedoms
and helps us live the American
dream for
freedom
and
peace
for
all.
Duty, Flag, Country
We must not forget the sacrifices our servicemen and veterans have made.
We must remember to thank all veterans for their sacrifices.
Thank Our Troops
