I am pleased to say that
members
of our family have served their country. On this day I am proud to
remember
our great grand fathers who served their country in the
Revolutionary
War, Spanish American War and Civil War. I am also proud to
remember
my uncle who served in the Air Force during WW II, my cousin who served
in the Korean War
and my brother who served as a
communication officer in the Navy during peacetime.
I am especially aware of the
concern,
sacrifice and worry families have when a family member goes into
service
during time of war as
my husband and brother in law
served in the Army during the
Viet
Nam War
and my daughter was born in
Bethesda
Naval Hospital.
I remember the first time these men were honored at a 4th of July celebration in our home town. My heart went out to them for it took years before they were honored for their service.
My three nephews
followed in their footprints
and have also served their country in the Marines and Navy
during the Gulf War and during
peacetime.
Our country and family are
grateful
for their service and all who serve
in the military.
